The Lucky Number 7
There are many lucky and unlucky numbers out there, but the lucky number seven may be the most famous of them all. The number seven is prevalent in many cultures as being one of the luckiest numbers known, but there is no one definitive reason or basis for its luck. There are many special lucky sevens spanning across many cultures and religions of both the modern and ancient worlds.
First off, let’s break down the lucky number seven. According to Pythagoras, the Father of Numerology, the number seven is comprised of both the number three and the number four, which makes it the perfect number. The numbers three and four are represented by the triangle and the square, which are also perfect figures. Because Pythagoras played such an integral role in numerology, many numerologists believe his theory to be the basis for why the number seven is considered to be lucky.
Our solar system is another basis for why seven may be a lucky number. Our ancient solar system had only seven planets which included the Sun, the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. The Sun was considered to be the greatest planet of them all while the Moon changed its splendor every seventh day. Because lucky and unlucky numbers play such a role in numerology, which is a branch of astrology, many believe this to be the basis for the lucky number seven.
The Chinese culture places importance on the number seven in relation to the moon as well. The seventh day of the first moon of the lunar year is to be celebrated as the birthday of all human beings. This special day is known simply as Human’s Day. We could go on and on with the ancient influence of the number seven and mention the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the seven seas, and the seven days of the week, but no one really knows why seven is considered to be so lucky.
The number seven plays an important role in many religions including the Islamic, Jewish, and Christian faiths. According to the two latter religions, the world was created in six days and completed on the seventh, which is also known as the holiest day, or the day of rest. Going a little deeper into the Christian religion, there are seven deadly sins, which are not considered to be especially lucky, however they play an important role in the religion. There are also seven levels of Hell. In the Jewish religion, when a loved one passes away, it is customary to sit Shivah for a period of seven days.
We also see the number seven pop up in many other customs and religions. One superstition, based in numerology, claims that if the date of your birth can be summed into a single number that is easily divided by seven, you will have a particularly lucky life. Furthermore, it has been said that if you dream of the number seven, you will meet your soul mate soon after. The number seven pops up all over the place as a very lucky number.
